Welcome to the website of Corinne Hills fine art illustrator, and engraver

Corinne specialises in botanical studies, which is her main passion, and has been rewarded with international recognition selling her original artwork all over the world, and awarded with prestige RHS medals for her botanical illustrations.

By utilising her many years’ experience and expert skills in botanical illustration and studies, Corinne is now diversifying into producing engravings, etchings and mezzotints, to expand her repertoire to embrace customers’ requests for the unusual and the different, but still retain the botanical element. Here Corinne has divided her work into sections, giving you a general guide, as to the type and feel of the different medium employed by her.

Original Botanical illustrations

To keep the intensity and detail of the drawing, only live plant specimens, not photos, are used to produce an accurate illustration of the subject matter. The first stage is to do a completed drawing in graphite pencil, then the subject is lightly shaded in a pale background colour and built up using coloured pencils to intensify the colour from the working drawing, as shown below, to the finished illustration.

LIMITED EDITION PRINTS FROM HER ORIGINALS

As a supplement to her original illustrations, a limited edition of these print are available. A print run of no more than 100 are produced, and are supplied framed in a standard silver frame, although bespoke frames can be supplied upon request.

MIXED MEDIA LIMITED EDITION PRINTS

This process combines the beauty and sensuality of the dark misty back ground produced by using aquatint, and then hand coloured using the intensity of the coloured pencil to make an atmospheric mysterious picture.
This is a different slant on Corinne’s individual studies, but still retains the draftsmanship which is her trade mark.

Etchings

A method of reproduction using a metal plate (Corinne uses mostly copper, but other metals such as Zinc or Stainless Steel can be used) as the substrate. The plate is coated with a wax ground which is then drawn through to expose the metal, it is then immersed in a bath of acid that bites into the exposed metal areas. With the wax ground removed the plate is inked up, the etch areas retaining the ink and the image is transferred onto the paper via pressure between two rollers.

HOME-WARE

By popular request Corinne is now offering soft furnishing from her original flower illustrations. At this moment she is marketing some cushions but her range will increase with demand. Carrying on with the home-ware theme Corinne now has a varied selection of Table Mats and Coasters available, again from all her original illustrations

Summary

Corinne’s one aim as an artist is always to be able to draw, whatever the subject, with accuracy, and for the audience of her work to be able to recognise through her coloured pencil illustrations, the skill, dedication and passion that is achieved in the final picture.

And when they hang either and original illustration or a fine art print on their wall, they know she has to the best of her ability, created a piece of artwork that is worthy of their investment, and that they can enjoy every day of their lives.
